These sheets are made for children to think about the characters from the story and record their thoughts.
These thoughts can be written around the pictures by the children if they are able but equally valuable if scribed by an adult.
The discussions and ideas are the most important part of this activity!
At the end of the pack is a short question idea card to get the discussion started but add as many other questions as you like and encourage the children to ask their own questions too!

This display/activity is intended to help the child/children identify their emotions and the experiences that trigger those emotions.
At the start of the day, one emotion is to be highlighted and discussed with the children. The children are then encouraged to tell someone if they think they experience that emotion during the day. The aim is for the children to become more introspective of their emotions, and more perceptive of the emotions of others.
As a group activity the children have the chance to learn from their peer’s experiences as well as their own.
Pack includes:
• Changeable display banner with space for different ‘Emotion of the day’ cards.
• Emotion of the day display cards for happy, sad, excited, worried, angry, confused, scared, surprised.
• Small A6 emotion cards to be placed around the setting as a reminder of the ‘Emotion of the day’.

We created this ‘Why is Teddy sad?’ pack in order for you to be able to explore with children how sometimes something may feel wrong inside when there are no obvious cuts, bruises, etc.
As well as investigating the feeling of ‘sadness’ by talking about what might cause us to feel sad and what it actually feels like, this pack could also be a doorway to talking about mental health. It also aids in the mindfulness practice of recognising emotions.

This display is intended to be an interactive self-registration display that can evolve throughout the day. The children can find and add their names to the emoji that expresses how they are feeling at the start of the day and then they are encouraged to change the position of their name as they see fit as the day progresses. It aids in the mindfulness practice of recognising emotions.
An adult can quickly check to see how the group is feeling and follow up on anyone who may have indicated that they are sad, angry, etc.
Two sizes of emoji are included so that the display can fit different settings. Large (p4-9) and Small (p10-12).
For name tags, print p13 as many times as needed.

The activity should help the child/children think carefully about what each emotion feels like to them when they experience them. It can often be difficult for children (and anyone) to deal with feelings of worry and anxiety. Once these feelings become overwhelmingly strong, it can be difficult to get passed them.
These 2 sheets are designed for children and adults to discuss what helps a particular child to feel happy when they are worried. This could be things like cuddling a particular soft toy, colouring, playing Lego, reading a book, etc. Once strategies have been decided, the child could make marks in the box(es) that will remind them of this strategy when they need to use it. Alternatively, adults may create picture prompts to place in the box(es).

It can often be difficult for children (and anyone) to make good choices when they have an overwhelming feeling of anger or frustration. In order to talk about problems and express thoughts effectively it is often necessary to return to a calm state first.
These 2 sheets are designed for children and adults to discuss what helps a particular child to feel happy/calm again. This could be things like cuddling a particular soft toy, colouring, playing Lego, sitting in the reading corner, etc. Once strategies have been decided, the child could make marks in the boxes that will remind them of this strategy when they need to use it. Alternatively, adults may create picture prompts to place in the box(es).

Pack of animal cards with sorting labels. Ideal for use as part of an interactive display or sorting activity or game. Differentiate for use with different ages of children by your selection of activity cards, the vocabulary you use and your use of questioning. You may like to select e.g. the headings ‘4 legs’, ‘2 legs’ and ‘0 legs’. Place them on the floor or a table and discuss with your child(ren) which animal cards should be placed under each of the headings. For some headings such as ‘Eats meat’, ‘Eats plants’ and ‘Eats both’ you may like to create your own venn diagram by using two hoops/looped skipping ropes on the floor or circles on paper which overlap in the middle. The 2 separate components go in each hoop e.g. ‘Eats meat’ and ‘Eats plants’ and the overlapping centre is where both characteristics are true. In this case ‘Eats both meat and plants’. If none of the characteristics mentioned are true for an animal, the animal card may be placed outside of the circles. This sorting activity is a great way to encourage children to observe animal characteristics closely. The active engagement with the subject matter means they are more likely to retain knowledge for example new vocabulary. Can you think of any other ways to sort these animals? Perhaps you could make your own heading cards?

‘Our Favourite Animals’ Pictogram Chart pictures and banner designed for children to not only think about their favourite animal, but also realise that others may not have the same favourite. In addition, children begin to learn about simple graphs and charts. Ideal for use in a classroom, preschool, nursery or childminder setting. Children do not have to necessarily complete the activity at the same time, but a chart can be added to a display and individual children can add their own favourites at appropriate times. Simply place any of the eight large animals on the first page in a horizontal line to form the base of the chart and children can add their own favourite smaller animal above to create the vertical lines of a chart. The lengths of the lines can be compared and number of animals on each can be counted to find totals. Questions such as ‘How many children like tigers?’ may be asked. To really extend mathematical thinking, questions such as ‘How many more children like elephants than kangaroos?’ Animals included are: lion, kangaroo, chimpanzee, zebra, elephant, dolphin, tiger and turtle.

These animal sound cards (like our snap cards) are intended to be folded and then laminated to create a more sturdy final product which can be reused many times. Perhaps you could lay the cards face down on the table/floor and take it in turns to select a card. Whoever selects a card must turn it over so that only they can see the animal on the other side. Their challenge is then to make the noise of the animal and everyone else has to guess which animal card they have. Before you play the game you may like to go through the cards together and discuss what sounds you think each animal makes. If you have a group of children you may end up with a few different versions for each animal e.g. some may go for the sounds traditionally taught for each animal (which vary between languages and cultures) and others may go for a more realistic representation of the sounds they have heard the animals make. Have fun exploring animal sounds!

Place as an ‘invitation to play’ as part of continuous provision and/or use as prompts during an adult led activity as follows:
Print and laminate the cards being mindful not to leave pointy corners.
Set up the two sets of animal cards. Choose one of the animals and say its name out loud, e.g. “Owl!”
Then say to the child “Can you find the other owl?”
Help the child through a matching game, whilst reinforcing the names of the animals.

Possible adult directed activity:

Have great fun with your children whilst all acting out Autumn sights with this set of 8 Autumn Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! For those children who are exceptionally engaged, these cards explored in sequence could even be set to music as a dance performance! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

‘Signs of Autumn’ cards. Ideal for use as part of a Autumn display to visually highlight the changes that happen following Summer. Cards can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language.
When used as part of a display or offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the cards in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the squirrel?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours can you see?’, ‘How many leaves are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite card?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘What do you think trees will look like in the Winter?’, ‘Have you seen any of these signs of Autumn?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we go outside and see which of them we can find?’ You may like to use our ‘Autumn Checklists’ as an activity prompt for searching outside.

Chinese/Lunar New Year colouring sheets. 14 pages, including various New Year posters, pictures of the 12 zodiac animals, Chinese numbers 1-10 and Chinese food to colour. In conjunction with developing fine motor skills and expressive arts and design elements (e.g. the choice of colours), these colouring sheets can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language. When offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the images in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the horse?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours have you used?’, ‘How many animals are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite picture?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘Have you seen any Chinese/Lunar New Year decorations?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we make some of our own?’ If children take their pictures home, further consolidation of new vocabulary may arise through additional communication with those at home.

Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! • Tell the children that no-one knows for sure what these dinosaurs sounded like, so we need some great ideas.
• When showing these card prompts draw attention to whether the dinosaur is small, large, or gigantic! Will this affect the sound?
• How about whether the dinosaur looks fierce or timid… does this change what they think?
An additional sound activity could be to think about the sounds the dinosaurs’ footsteps would make, paying attention to the size of the dinosaur and how heavy it would have been.

Your children will love to use this as part of an out and about hunt activity (for example dinosaurs hidden around your outdoor area) or in conjunction with a 'Dinosaur' themed tuff spot or feely bag. Use as a Tally Chart or Check List. Differentiate expectations for individual children within your care. Dinosaur Pictogram Chart pictures designed for children to not only think about their favourite dinosaur, but also realise that others may not have the same favourite. In addition, children begin to learn about simple graphs and charts. Ideal for use in a classroom, preschool, nursery or childminder setting. Children do not have to necessarily complete the activity at the same time, but a chart can be added to a display and individual children can add their own favourites at appropriate times. Simply place the four large dinosaurs on the first page in a horizontal line to form the base of the chart and children can add their own favourite smaller dinosaur above to create the vertical lines of a chart. The lengths of the lines can be compared and number of dinosaurs on each can be counted to find totals. Questions such as ‘How many children like the triceratops?’ may be asked. To really extend mathematical thinking, questions such as ‘How many more children like the tyrannosaurus rex than the triceratops?’ could be delved into. Please note that pterodactyls were pterosaurs (a type of flying reptile), not technically dinosaurs.

Explore size and shape with this loose parts investigation. Print both the ‘big’ and the ‘small’ egg. Describe the shapes. Perhaps extend older children by asking ‘How are they similar?’ ‘How are they different?’ With younger children focus on the vocab ‘big’ and ‘small’. Why not investigate how many e.g. duplo bricks or perhaps Easter themed objects you can fit in each and then compare the amounts? Adapt for different ages by using smaller or larger loose parts. Why not involve a tool such as tweezers in the process to develop fine motor skills? For our youngest children these templates could also be used as a stimulus to sort small and big objects…e.g a table of objects with a small and big version of each and the children place the objects next to the appropriate egg.

Fun scavenger hunt game for in or outdoors!
Fairy cards (Minibeast Fairy, Water Fairy, Tree Fairy, Fruit Fairy, Flower Fairy & Earth Fairy) are designed to be hidden for children to find.
You may like to simply encourage your children to search until they find all six fairies.
Alternatively (or after), for an additional challenge, you may like to draw children’s attention to the colours, shapes and numbers on each card. Why not challenge your children to find the card with a specific shape on it? Have great fun with your children whilst all pretending to be fairies with this set of 6 Fairy Activity Challenge cards.
Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front.
Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together!

Great activity to inspire sequencing and listening skills.
Why not start by describing the pictures? Encourage your children to describe what they can see. Do they recognise the characters and objects from the story?
Can your child(ren) help you to place the pictures in the order they happen in the story?
Once your pictures are in the right order, perhaps you could read one of the story segments. Can your child(ren) indicate which picture they think it matches with? Continue to do this until you have the outline of the story.
The amount of adult involvement in this process can be determined by the age and level of your child(ren).

These endless puzzles are perfect to show the cyclic nature of life cycles. For example in the first instance the frog puzzle may be placed in the order ‘frogspawn’, ‘tadpole’, ‘froglet’ and then ‘frog’. To demonstrate to children that the frog then lays frogspawn, the ‘frogspawn’ piece may be brought to connect with the ‘frog’ piece at the end and thus continuing the cycle. This process can continue for as long as you like, bringing the ‘tadpole’ piece to then end and then the ‘froglet’ piece and so on!

Explore movement with this set of ‘Life Cycle Action Cards’. Prompts for adults to use to describe to children and demonstrate how they may move. Pictures are also included on prompt cards to give visual representation for children to connect the actions with. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! Use these ‘Life Cycle Cards’ to inspire children to think about the growth of frog, butterfly and chicken. Ideal for a sub topic within ‘Spring’. These versatile cards are made with a tab which can be folded before lamination in order to strengthen the final product. This also means that when turned over, the picture on the front can not be seen. Why not use these cards as part of a ‘Life Cycles’ display or invitation to play? Can the children match the correct parts of each life cycle and then place them in the correct order? Perhaps the frog, butterfly and chicken could be placed on the table face up and the rest face down. Children could take it in turns to turn over cards and place them next to the correct creature. The cards could also be used as a basis for communication and language development, first naming the cards and then describing. More challenging questions could be e.g. ‘How do you think a butterfly moves?’ ‘How is that different to how a caterpillar moves? ‘

Minibeasts Pictogram Chart pictures designed for children to not only think about their favourite minibeast, but also realise that others may not have the same favourite. In addition, children begin to learn about simple graphs and charts.
Ideal for use in a classroom, preschool, nursery or childminder setting. Children do not have to necessarily complete the activity at the same time, but a chart can be added to a display and individual children can add their own favourites at appropriate times. Simply place the four large minibeasts on the first page in a horizontal line to form the base of the chart and children can add their own favourite smaller minibeast above to create the vertical lines of a chart. The lengths of the lines can be compared and number of minibeasts on each can be counted to find totals. Questions such as ‘How many children like the bee?’ may be asked. To really extend mathematical thinking, questions such as ‘How many more children like the bee than the butterfly?’ could be delved into.

Endless discussions can be engaged in describing these creatures. For example physical attributes such as whether they have wings, armoured bodies, shells, number of legs or body sections, etc. Older children can be challenged to further contemplate ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions building on these observations. For example ‘Why do you think the butterfly has wings?’…or ‘How do you think worms move?’

Have great fun with your children whilst all pretending to be minibeasts with this set of 8 Minibeast Activity Challenge cards.
Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! For those children who are exceptionally engaged, these cards explored in sequence could even be set to music as a dance performance!
Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

Why not set up an invitation to play using these ‘Minibeasts’ counting puzzles? Select those appropriate for your children (1-10 available) and allow them to match the number with the corresponding number of minibeasts. Each pair has a different way of connecting as a puzzle for the children to match and so even if they haven’t learnt what the number looks like yet, but are beginning to say the numbers in order, this can be a fun way to introduce them to new challenges. Once the puzzles are complete, why not line the numbers up in order and count together? If your children would enjoy a further game, leave out a number and see if they can spot which one is missing from the sequence. Puzzles could also be used as a fine motor control/counting activity if left uncut. Children could be given an appropriate number for their learning and encouraged to place objects on the minibeasts, counting as they go.

Your children will love to use this as part of an out and about hunt activity (for example searching for minibeasts in your outdoor area) or in conjunction with a 'Minibeasts' themed tuff spot or feely bag. Use as a Tally Chart or Check List. Differentiate expectations for individual children within your care. Some children may simply use it as a visual cue whilst others may begin to make marks resembling tally lines or even numbers. Alternatively ask your children ‘Which is your favourite minibeast?’ and collect the results as a group. Which minibeast has the most votes?
