Festivals & Celebrations – EYFS Printable Provision
Supporting cultural awareness, belonging and celebration in the Early Years
This page brings together our collection of printable resources linked to a wide range of cultural, religious and secular festivals and celebrations. These resources are designed to support respectful exploration, discussion and representation within Early Years settings.
Practitioners may choose to use festivals and celebrations to:
reflect the lived experiences of children and families
support understanding of similarities and differences
enrich language, storytelling and role play
mark significant moments in the year in age-appropriate ways
Our resources are designed to be flexible and optional, allowing settings to make informed, sensitive choices based on their community and curriculum intent.
Using festivals and celebrations in EYFS practice
In line with the EYFS, festivals and celebrations are not intended as a checklist or compulsory curriculum.
Instead, they can be used thoughtfully to:
build children’s understanding of the world
promote inclusion, respect and belonging
support meaningful conversations about family, tradition and community
link learning to children’s real-life experiences
Many settings choose to focus on:
celebrations represented within their community
events that arise naturally through children’s interests
a small number of festivals explored in greater depth
