About ‘Easter’
Easter is the most important Christian holiday, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, as described in the New Testament. It is observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, meaning the date varies between late March and late April.
Key Aspects of Easter:
Resurrection of Jesus: Easter marks Jesus' triumph over death after his crucifixion on Good Friday. His resurrection is central to Christian belief, symbolising hope, redemption, and eternal life.
Holy Week: The days leading up to Easter include:
Palm Sunday: Commemorates Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday: Remembers the Last Supper.
Good Friday: Observes Jesus’ crucifixion and sacrifice.
Holy Saturday: A day of waiting before the resurrection.
Easter Sunday: Celebrated with church services, joyful hymns, and feasts.
Easter Traditions:
Easter Eggs: Symbolising new life, eggs are dyed, decorated, and used in egg hunts.
The Easter Bunny: A folkloric figure that delivers eggs and treats to children.
Feasts and Gatherings: Many celebrate with special meals, often including lamb, ham, or other festive foods.
Religious Services: Many Christians attend sunrise services and special Masses.
