These playdough mats are perfect for gaining an insight into the day to day feelings of those in your care. Useful as a tool to explore feelings 1:1 with a child. However, they may be especially useful as a fine motor activity within a setting/school which also allows adults to tell at a glance the feelings of children within a group. This could be a particularly beneficial tool in assessing the feelings of those settling into a new setting. In addition, it aids in the mindfulness practice of recognising emotions.

Extremely useful to prompt discussions and role play about how situations may make us feel, beginning to understand other people's emotions and how to deal with our own. Each of the statements were developed considering what situations children may experience themselves. Adult to read cards, match to appropriate picture with the help of child(ren). These Emotion Cards with matching word labels are designed to be used for a variety of purposes. Print large for use in an interactive display or whole class activity or smaller for 1:1 individual work. Children (with support from an adult) think about how the person in each picture is feeling in order to identify the emotion. You may or may not wish to use the word card labels depending on the age of your children.

Prompt cards to use with children in a circle time/group discussion setting. The questions are intended to help when preparing for a transition to a new setting by focusing the children on thinking about themselves and their likes and dislikes. The illustrations are to give the children some scaffolding for their ideas and also so they can be involved in choosing questions independently. On each card there is a main question and also an optional follow up question to stretch the children’s thinking and language.

Pack of animal cards with sorting labels. Ideal for use as part of an interactive display or sorting activity or game. Differentiate for use with different ages of children by your selection of activity cards, the vocabulary you use and your use of questioning. You may like to select e.g. the headings ‘4 legs’, ‘2 legs’ and ‘0 legs’. Place them on the floor or a table and discuss with your child(ren) which animal cards should be placed under each of the headings. For some headings such as ‘Eats meat’, ‘Eats plants’ and ‘Eats both’ you may like to create your own venn diagram by using two hoops/looped skipping ropes on the floor or circles on paper which overlap in the middle. The 2 separate components go in each hoop e.g. ‘Eats meat’ and ‘Eats plants’ and the overlapping centre is where both characteristics are true. In this case ‘Eats both meat and plants’. If none of the characteristics mentioned are true for an animal, the animal card may be placed outside of the circles. This sorting activity is a great way to encourage children to observe animal characteristics closely. The active engagement with the subject matter means they are more likely to retain knowledge for example new vocabulary. Can you think of any other ways to sort these animals? Perhaps you could make your own heading cards?

Have great fun with your children whilst all acting out Autumn sights with this set of 8 Autumn Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! For those children who are exceptionally engaged, these cards explored in sequence could even be set to music as a dance performance! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

‘Signs of Autumn’ cards. Ideal for use as part of a Autumn display to visually highlight the changes that happen following Summer. Cards can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language.
When used as part of a display or offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the cards in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the squirrel?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours can you see?’, ‘How many leaves are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite card?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘What do you think trees will look like in the Winter?’, ‘Have you seen any of these signs of Autumn?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we go outside and see which of them we can find?’ You may like to use our ‘Autumn Checklists’ as an activity prompt for searching outside.

Display this poster in your setting to encourage children to look closely and pay attention to details. Chinese/Lunar New Year colouring sheets. 14 pages, including various New Year posters, pictures of the 12 zodiac animals, Chinese numbers 1-10 and Chinese food to colour. In conjunction with developing fine motor skills and expressive arts and design elements (e.g. the choice of colours), these colouring sheets can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language. When offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the images in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the horse?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours have you used?’, ‘How many animals are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite picture?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘Have you seen any Chinese/Lunar New Year decorations?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we make some of our own?’ If children take their pictures home, further consolidation of new vocabulary may arise through additional communication with those at home.

Have great fun with your children whilst all pretending to be dinosaurs with this set of 8 Dinosaur Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! Have great fun with your children whilst all pretending to be dinosaurs with this set of 8 Dinosaur Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! Why not set up an invitation to play using these ‘Egg Counting Puzzles’?
Select those appropriate for your children (1-10 available) and allow them to match the number with the corresponding number of eggs. Each pair has a different way of connecting as a puzzle for the children to match and so even if they haven’t learnt what the number looks like yet, but are beginning to say the numbers in order, this can be a fun way to introduce them to new challenges.
Once the puzzles are complete, why not line the numbers up in order and count together? If your children would enjoy a further challenge, leave out a number and see if they can spot which one is missing from the sequence.
Puzzles could also be used as a fine motor control/counting activity if left uncut. Children could be given an appropriate number for their learning and encouraged to place objects on the eggs, counting as they go.
In addition, each number is also written as a word. For our youngest children, this adds to learning about text in the environment and how it has meaning. Our oldest children may start to recognise the words and associate them with the numbers. This will be beneficial for when they begin to read and write these words in subsequent years as they will have something to build on.

Easter Egg Hunt Clue Cards designed for you to fill in and place eggs around your setting before game begins. Simply print out the cards that you would like to use (looking carefully at the sentence starter wording at the top of each card) and then write in clues which fit with your setting and children. We designed this activity with following instructions and positional language in mind and so it is intended that you read the cards to the children. Some suggestions for clue writing are included on the first page. We suggest that you hide the second clue with the first egg to be found so that a chain is created.

Explore size and shape with this loose parts investigation. Print both the ‘big’ and the ‘small’ egg. Describe the shapes. Perhaps extend older children by asking ‘How are they similar?’ ‘How are they different?’ With younger children focus on the vocab ‘big’ and ‘small’. Why not investigate how many e.g. duplo bricks or perhaps Easter themed objects you can fit in each and then compare the amounts? Adapt for different ages by using smaller or larger loose parts. Why not involve a tool such as tweezers in the process to develop fine motor skills? For our youngest children these templates could also be used as a stimulus to sort small and big objects…e.g a table of objects with a small and big version of each and the children place the objects next to the appropriate egg.
