These Spring Senses Poem mark making prompt sheets will help encourage your children to draw and/or write about their senses and start to get a feel for poetry…perhaps after the children have been on a Spring walk! Children can complete them at varying levels. For example, your youngest children may be able to tell you what they see or hear and you can scribe a single word in each box. ‘Signs of Summer’ cards. Ideal for use as part of a Summer display to visually highlight the changes that happen following Spring. Cards can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language. When used as part of a display or offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the cards in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the tree?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours can you see?’, ‘How many ice creams are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite card?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘What do you think this tree would look like in the Winter?’, ‘Have you seen any of these signs of Summer?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we go outside and see which of them we can find?’

This colour matching set may be used in many different ways. Here are a few examples…

• You may like to cut out and laminate the mats and separate cards to create an invitation to play for your child(ren). Children will naturally want to match the objects and colours, for example placing the blue cup card onto the corresponding blue cup on the teddy bear mat.

• Play games with the children, perhaps putting things in the wrong place yourself, saying ‘Oh silly me! That’s not a green cup, it’s a red cup!’ all the while reinforcing the names of the colours.

Great activity to inspire sequencing and listening skills.

Why not start by describing the pictures? Encourage your children to describe what they can see. Do they recognise the characters and objects from the story?

Can your child(ren) help you to place the pictures in the order they happen in the story?

Once your pictures are in the right order, perhaps you could read one of the story segments. Can your child(ren) indicate which picture they think it matches with? Continue to do this until you have the outline of the story.

Have great fun with your children whilst all acting out different weather with this set of 6 Weather Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! For those children who are exceptionally engaged, these cards explored in sequence could even be set to music as a dance performance! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

Have great fun with your children whilst all acting out putting on different items of clothing with this set of 6 Clothes Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front.

Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! For those children who are exceptionally engaged, these cards explored in sequence could even be set to music as a dance performance! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

Sock counting puzzles (1-10). Why not set up an invitation to play using these ‘Sock Counting Puzzles’?

Select those appropriate for your children (1-10 available) and allow them to match the number with the corresponding number of socks. Each pair has a different way of connecting as a puzzle for the children to match and so even if they haven’t learnt what the number looks like yet, but are beginning to say the numbers in order, this can be a fun way to introduce them to new challenges.

Once the puzzles are complete, why not line the numbers up in order and count together? If your children would enjoy a further challenge, leave out a number and see if they can spot which one is missing from the sequence.

Puzzles could also be used as a fine motor control/counting activity if left uncut. Children could be given an appropriate number for their learning and encouraged to place objects on the socks, counting as they go.

Ideal for use as part of a Winter display to visually highlight the changes that happen following Autumn. Cards can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language. When used as part of a display or offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the cards in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the tree?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours have you used?’, ‘How many snow drop flowers are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite card?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘Have you seen any of these signs of Winter?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we go outside and see which of them we can find?’ If children take their pictures home, further consolidation of new vocabulary and Winter facts may arise through additional communication with those at home.

Have great fun with your children whilst all acting out Winter sights with this set of 8 Winter Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! For those children who are exceptionally engaged, these cards explored in sequence could even be set to music as a dance performance! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

Can you match the feeding time number on the animal card to the time on the clock?

All times are o’clock and each puzzle pair has a different way of connecting for the children to match and so even if they haven’t learnt to read the time yet, but are familiar with a clock face and numbers to 12, this can be a fun way to introduce them to new challenges.

Consolidate children’s knowledge of zoo animals whilst playing a fun game of snap (or a memory game of ‘picking up pairs’) with this set of large snap cards. The cards are made with a tab which can be folded before lamination in order to strengthen the final product. This also means that when turned over, the picture on the front can not be seen. The cards include a picture of each animal, their footprint silhouette and also their name written in lower case letters. 11 animals included and the file comprises 44 cards in total.
