These alliteration/tongue twister prompt cards have been designed to encourage your children to have fun exploring and experimenting with initial sounds. Children with your help can be guided to find the initial sound on the object card, for example sounding out ‘b’ as the initial sound in ‘ball’. Can you all think of some descriptive words which start with the sound ‘b’… e.g. ‘bouncing’? Practise saying the phrase you have created, i.e. ‘bouncing ball’. Older children may like to make a string of several words and/or say phrases with increasing speed. Children will enjoy how silly it sounds (and feels) when they try to repeat phrases more and more quickly. 8 cards to this pack.
Instructions in pack:
(Cards to be folded first and ideally laminated.)
Picture side to show to children. Encourage them to say what they see and then think of a word to describe the picture.
Encourage alliteration using the same initial sound.
Ideas are on the reverse side for an adult to add to the discussion.
When one or two words have been chosen, say the words together and then ask the children to repeat back.

Ideas
Even number of children to have a card each and then try to find the person holding the card that rhymes with theirs.
or
Split pack in to two piles with the rhyming pairs split between the two piles. Each child to have a card each from one of the piles. Adult to take cards one by one from the second pile and read it out. Children to recognise if they have the rhyming card to match the adult.
or
Child to take a random card and think of a rhyming word for that card.
or
Spread all cards out on a table or the floor and encourage children to match up the rhyming pairs.

We have created this game to inspire conversations about the concept of weight. Children can place a card in one of the boxes and then attempt to place an appropriate card (in comparison to the first) in the other box. E.g. they may select an object they think of as ‘heavy’ in the first box and then find a card showing an object they think is ‘lighter’ than that object in the second box. If you have scales in your setting, why not develop this activity further? Perhaps you could begin weighing objects in your setting and draw them into the boxes? Display the finished products as a reminder for the concept or send the posters home to discuss further/allow the child to ’teach’ family members which will further consolidate the concept in a child’s mind.

Why not set up an invitation to play using these ‘Farm Animals and their Young’ counting puzzles? Select those appropriate for your children (1-10 available) and allow them to match the number beside the adult with the corresponding number of young animals.
Each pair has a different way of connecting as a puzzle for the children to match and so even if they haven’t learnt what the number looks like yet, but are beginning to say the numbers in order, this can be a fun way to introduce them to new challenges. In addition each puzzle matches the adult and young and so this allows for another method of self checking.
Once the puzzles are complete, why not line the numbers up in order and count together? If your children would enjoy a further challenge, leave out a number and see if they can spot which one is missing from the sequence.
Puzzles could also be used as a fine motor control/counting activity if left uncut. Children could be given an appropriate number for their learning and encouraged to place objects on the baby animals, counting as they go.
In addition, each number is also written as a word. For our youngest children, this adds to learning about text in the environment and how it has meaning. Our oldest children may start to recognise the words and associate them with the numbers. This will be beneficial for when they begin to read and write these words in subsequent years as they will have something to build on.

Why not use this fun farm animals and their young puzzle game to introduce your children to or consolidate their knowledge of farm animals? Cut each puzzle along the line in the middle and invite your children to match each farm animal with its offspring. Why not extend learning by discussing similarities and differences between the older and younger animals and also between the different types of animals? On The Farm’ themed size ordering pictures. Intended to be cut out (and ideally laminated) for use by children in repeatable size ordering activities. If you have access to a fuzzy felt board, why not stick velcro tabs on the back so that children can move them around on the board? Alternatively use them as a cut and stick activity (to also strengthen fine motor skills) for the children to take home and discuss with their families using words such as ‘small, smaller, smallest, big, bigger, biggest’. Differentiate for individual children by using just 1 or 2 of the pictures for comparison e.g to focus on the words ‘big’ and ‘small’ or use all of the pictures to allow for greater variation of comparative language.

These matching sheets require your children to spot similarities and differences between animals in order to work out which adult animal matches with which young animal. Pirate Treasure Hunt Clue Cards designed for you to fill in and place small treasure cards (included) around your setting before game begins. Simply print out the cards that you would like to use (looking carefully at the sentence starter wording at the top of each card) and then write in clues which fit with your setting and children. We designed this activity with following instructions and positional language in mind and so it is intended that you read the cards to the children. Some suggestions for clue writing are included on the first page. We suggest that you hide the second clue with the first small treasure card to be found so that a chain is created.
