Fun scavenger hunt game for in or outdoors!
Mermaid and Mermen cards are designed to be hidden for children to find.
You may like to simply encourage your children to search until they find all six Merpeople.
Alternatively (or after), for an additional challenge, you may like to draw children’s attention to the colours, shapes and numbers on each card. Why not challenge your children to find the card with a specific shape on it? We have also included sets of cards with the relevant numbers, shapes and colours on within the pack, in order that you may select a card to give you a particular child or they may self select a challenge for themselves. These cards are ideal for children who require picture aids for non-verbal communication.
The cards also allow plenty of opportunity for communication and language development and observation skills looking at the key similarities and differences between each Merperson.

Have great fun with your children whilst all pretending to be beach items with this set of 8 Beach Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Cards could equally be shrunk down and placed on a key ring to take out on adventures or featured on an indoor or outdoor display board and referred to with everyone carrying out the activity on floor space in front. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

🎵 Nursery Rhymes & Under the Sea Learning
Popular rhymes can provide engaging starting points for learning.
Featured resources include:
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive"
"Big Ship Sails"
These resources support language development, sequencing, memory and early literacy skills.
‘Big Ship Sails’ Nursery Rhyme Poster(s). Useful for displays and reading or musical activities. Younger children will love to explore the rhythm and rhyme of this nursery rhyme and join in, especially with the aid of visual stimulus. Perhaps with older children you might like to highlight the CVC words to practise blending or identify all of the Phase 2 or 3 sounds or high frequency words? Want to incorporate music? How about clapping or using percussion instruments to feel the ‘beat’? Have fun!

‘1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught A Fish Alive’ Nursery Rhyme Individual Handout. Why not send these home for children to enjoy sharing with their families? Small enough to fit in children’s bags and won’t waste too much printer ink, but will still encourage communication and language development at home. Children may also enjoy sharing what they have learnt at school/your setting regarding the rhyme, whether it be actions, new key words or letters and sounds or simply being able to recite the whole rhyme rhythmically. It also may encourage children to share with their families insights into their day e.g. ‘We played a game where our teacher pretended to be a nursery rhyme character and we had to guess which one she was’, or ‘We all took turns using puppets to act it out!
