In these very difficult times, we have created this poster in an attempt (heartbreaking as it is) to sum up the main aspects of social distancing and hygiene for children. We have tried to reinforce the positive idea that sharing a smile with their friends is an excellent way to help everyone feel happy and highlight the need to stand further away from each other than we usually would, take care to wash our hands really well and cough or sneeze into our sleeves.
With regards to all of our ‘Social Distancing’ resources, we are by no means suggesting that this is what should be done with your particular group of children, but we have created a set of resources of which some you may find useful to aid elements of social distancing in your particular set up.

Colour mixing experiment sheets with a star theme.
For example, paint the first star yellow and the second red. Then mix the two colours together and paint the bottom star in the resulting orange colour.
You may want to repeat this for a few different mixtures and make a ‘Colour Mixing’ display. Equally, the resulting stars could be cut out and used for further art work.

Great for number formation and counting! These A4 size mats can be laminated for use as playdough mats. Children can mould the shape of each number in playdough and also make the minibeasts. Additionally, they may be used for number writing practice with a whiteboard pen or used as stimulus for a loose parts activity. For example loose parts may be placed inside the lines of the numbers (also developing fine motor control) and placed onto each minibeast to aid in counting the correct quantity.

It could be used by a child once and taken home as a consolidation of their learning. It could be used as part of a Spring and/or Maths display. Ideal as part of an enabling environment, allowing children to observe and interact with their surroundings. Use these ‘Growing Bean Cards’ as part of a display or invitation to play activity. Children may enjoy moving the cards around to place them in the correct order to show how the bean grows into a plant. ‘Signs of Spring’ cards. Ideal for use as part of a Spring display to visually highlight the changes that happen following Winter. Cards can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language. When used as part of a display or offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the cards in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the tree?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours can you see?’, ‘How many ducklings are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite card?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘What do you think this tree would look like in the Winter?’, ‘Have you seen any of these signs of Spring?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we go outside and see which of them we can find?’

Have fun with this set of 8 Spring Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

‘Signs of Summer’ cards. Ideal for use as part of a Summer display to visually highlight the changes that happen following Spring. Cards can also be used as a great stimulus for communication and language. When used as part of a display or offered as part of an invitation to play children may initiate communication to you or other children about the cards in a child led fashion. Alternatively, adult led interaction could include closed or open ended questioning. Younger children may point to familiar objects when prompted e.g. ‘Where’s the tree?’ and learn new words as you describe to them what is in the picture. As children progress, more ground may be covered such as ‘What colours can you see?’, ‘How many ice creams are there in this picture?’, ‘Which is your favourite card?’, ‘Why do you like this picture the best?’, ‘What do you think this tree would look like in the Winter?’, ‘Have you seen any of these signs of Summer?’, ‘Where?’, ‘When?’, ‘Who were you with?’, ‘Shall we go outside and see which of them we can find?’

Have fun with this set of 8 Summer Activity Challenge cards. Perhaps children could stand in a circle around the pile of cards and take turns to pick one for everyone to do. Once the children get to know the cards they will be able to relate the action to the picture without necessarily needing the card read to them...For example an adult may be able to simply hold up a card and everyone will be able to do the activity together! For those children who are exceptionally engaged, these cards explored in sequence could even be set to music as a dance performance! Great for physical development, descriptive language, understanding the world and turn taking.

Ideal for use in a classroom, preschool, nursery or childminder setting. Children do not have to necessarily complete the activity at the same time, but a chart can be added to a display and individual children can add their own favourites at appropriate times.
Simply place the large sandwich images in a horizontal line to form the base of the chart and children can add their own favourite smaller sandwich above to create the vertical lines of a chart.
The lengths of the lines can be compared and number of sandwiches on each can be counted to find totals. Questions such as ‘How many children like ham and cheese?’ may be asked. To really extend mathematical thinking, questions such as ‘How many more children like salad than the jam?’ could be delved into.
