Early Years (EYFS & KS1) Valentine’s Day Activity: ‘I Love…’ Draw, Write & Mark Making Sheets
Foster warmth, gratitude, and expressive communication with our heartwarming Valentine's Day: 'I love...' Draw & Write Sheets! These thoughtfully designed printables are perfect for EYFS and KS1 children, providing a beautiful and differentiated activity to explore feelings of love, appreciation, and kindness.
Ideal for Preschool, Nursery, School, or for Parents and Childminders at home, these sheets encourage children to reflect on the special relationships they have with the people who care for them. They're a wonderful tool for discussing how we show people we love them, why we love them, and what makes them special to us. The activity can also be thoughtfully swayed towards thinking about acts of kindness for anyone.
This printable pack includes differentiated sheets, allowing all children to participate:
For Early Years (EYFS) / Pre-writing: Children can experiment with pre-writing marks, draw pictures of their loved ones, or begin to make marks which they give meaning to. This is a fantastic opportunity for adults to scribe what the children say during discussions, capturing their thoughts and feelings.
For Key Stage 1 (KS1) / Early Writers: Sheets with appropriate lines encourage children to begin writing simple sentences or short descriptions about who they love and why.
(Note: Please use your own discretion and knowledge of your children to ensure appropriateness of each activity suggested on this page and safety concerning any materials given and activity undertaken.)

Our Valentine's Day: 'I love...' Draw & Write Sheets are incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Preschool, Nursery & Childminder Settings:
Emotional Literacy: Use the blank sheets as a starting point for discussions about feelings, identifying who makes them feel loved, and how they show love.
Drawing & Mark Making: Encourage children to draw a picture of a loved one. Adults can scribe the child's explanation underneath, validating their communication.
Acts of Kindness: Discuss simple acts of kindness they can do for family members or friends, and draw a picture representing that act.
Reception Class (EYFS):
Personal Connections: Guide children to think about family members (e.g., mum, dad, grandparent, sibling) and draw them. Encourage emergent writing for names or simple words.
'Why I Love Them' Discussion: Use the sheets to facilitate group discussions about the unique qualities of loved ones and why they are special.
Gift for Parents: Children can proudly take their completed sheets home as a heartfelt Valentine's Day gift for their families.
KS1 Classes (Year 1 & Year 2 School):
Descriptive Writing: Challenge children to write one or more sentences explaining why they love a particular person, using adjectives to describe their qualities.
Poetry/Messages of Kindness: Encourage writing short poems or thoughtful messages of appreciation for friends, family, or even pets.
Empathy Building: Discuss how expressing love and kindness makes others feel, and how their words/drawings can bring joy.
Display: Create a beautiful 'Our Loved Ones' or 'Acts of Kindness' display using the completed sheets.
