The Men’s Football World Cup 2026

The Men’s Football World Cup 2026 runs from Thursday 11th June to Sunday 19th July. It is an international football tournament where national teams from around the world compete to become world champions. It takes place every four years and is organised by FIFA, the organisation that oversees global football.

The 2026 tournament will be hosted across three countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico. This will be the first time the men’s World Cup has been shared between three host nations. Teams from many different countries will travel to compete in matches held in stadiums across these countries.

Football is one of the most popular sports in the world, and the World Cup is watched by millions of people. For children, it can be a wonderful opportunity to explore themes such as teamwork, countries around the world, healthy activity, and celebrating different cultures.

In Early Years and Key Stage 1 settings, events like the World Cup can inspire learning through play. Practitioners might explore activities such as:

  • talking about different countries and flags

  • learning about working together as a team

  • practising simple ball skills and outdoor games

  • exploring counting, scoring and turn-taking

  • discussing fair play and kindness in sport

Using real-world events like the World Cup can help children make connections between their learning and what they see happening in the wider world.

You can find more information about the tournament on the official website of FIFA.
