For example, paint the first star yellow and the second red. Then mix the two colours together and paint the bottom star in the resulting orange colour.

N.B. The first three animals are true hibernators that sleep through the winter (bat, dormouse & hedgehog). Although the rest of the animals are not true hibernators (bear, badger, turtle, squirrel & butterfly) they do take extended deep sleeps, waking periodically as needed. These animals have been included as they are often seen as hibernators (especially by young children) and are therefore closely linked to this topic.

This ‘Decorate a Bird Box’ Multimat is part of our ‘Helping Wildlife in Winter’ set. It can be used as part of a wider theme to aid discussions about helping birds and small animals find shelter during the winter months.
