Celebrate the Jewish New Year with our wonderful FREE Rosh Hashanah: Colouring Sheets Pack! This delightful printable resource is perfect for EYFS and KS1 children, offering a fun and creative way to learn about the symbols and traditions of this significant festival.
Ideal for Preschool, Nursery, School, or for Parents and Childminders at home, these colouring sheets can be used as part of a focused adult-led activity to introduce concepts, or left out as a more child-led invitation to play and explore.

Shofar: The ram's horn, blown to mark the new year.
Star of David: A symbol of Judaism.
Round Challah Bread: A traditional braided bread, often baked in a round shape for the new year.
Fish: A traditional food symbolising fertility and a fruitful year.
Pomegranate: A fruit with many seeds, symbolising the many good deeds to be done.
Apples and Honey: A classic tradition for a sweet new year.
Candles: Lit to welcome the festival.
Text 'Shanah Tovah': A greeting meaning 'Good Year' in Hebrew.

Our FREE Rosh Hashanah: Colouring Sheets Pack is incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Focused Adult-Led Activity: Use a specific colouring sheet as a starting point for a discussion. For example, use the 'apples and honey' sheet to talk about the tradition of eating sweet foods for a sweet new year. This links the creative activity directly to the festival's meaning.
Child-Led Invitation to Play: Leave a selection of the sheets and various colouring tools (crayons, pencils, felt-tips) in a continuous provision area. This allows children to choose a sheet that interests them and explore the theme at their own pace.
Fine Motor Skills Development: The act of carefully colouring within the lines helps to strengthen hand muscles, improve pencil grip, and enhance hand-eye coordination.
Vocabulary Building: As children colour, an adult can use the opportunity to introduce and repeat the names of the items on the sheets (shofar, pomegranate, challah, etc.) and the greeting "Shanah Tovah."
Display Aid: The completed and colourful sheets make a lovely addition to a display board about Rosh Hashanah, showcasing the children's artwork and their understanding of the festival's symbols.
-
EYFS Framework:
Expressive Arts and Design: Children explore and use a range of media and materials, developing their own ideas and expressing creativity through colouring. They appreciate the visual qualities of the finished artwork.
Physical Development (Fine Motor Skills): Colouring within defined areas helps to develop precise hand movements, strengthen pencil grip, and enhance hand-eye coordination.
Communication and Language (Speaking; Listening, Attention & Understanding): Children listen to new vocabulary, engage in discussions about the symbols, and articulate their thoughts.
Understanding the World (People, Culture & Communities): Children learn about a different faith and cultural festival, broadening their understanding of the world.
-
KS1 Curriculum:
Art and Design: Children use drawing to develop and share their ideas and experiences. They can explore colour and line to bring the images to life.
Religious Education / Understanding the World: Children learn about a significant Jewish festival and its customs and symbols.
English (Reading - indirectly): Exposure to various text within the colouring sheets helps with word recognition and understanding that print carries meaning.
