Our FREE Diwali: Colouring Pages Activity is incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Focused Colouring Activity:
Provide a selection of colouring tools (crayons, pencils, felt-tips) and encourage children to choose a sheet that interests them.
Use the activity as a chance to talk about Diwali and its traditions. Ask children, "Why are there so many lights at Diwali?" or "What do you know about Rangoli patterns?"
Child-Led Invitation to Play:
Leave the sheets out in a continuous provision area. This allows children to choose when and how they want to engage with the activity, promoting independence and choice.
Fine Motor Skills Development:
The act of carefully colouring within the lines, especially the intricate Rangoli and Mehndi patterns, helps to strengthen hand muscles, improve pencil grip, and enhance hand-eye coordination.
Display Aid:
The completed and colourful sheets make a lovely addition to a display board about Diwali, showcasing the children's artwork and their understanding of the festival's symbols.
Cultural Exploration:
The sheets provide an excellent visual aid for introducing children to different cultural practices, such as the use of Diva lamps and the creation of Mehndi patterns.
-
EYFS Framework:
Expressive Arts and Design: Children explore and use a range of media and materials, developing their own ideas and expressing creativity through colouring. They appreciate the visual qualities of the finished artwork.
