What’s included?
Six A4 landscape Diwali border sheets. There is a blank layout, a five-line layout and a three-line layout with wider spacing. Each comes with a colour border and a black-and-white border.
Space for children’s own ideas
Use the open centre for drawing and marks, or choose a lined sheet when lines help the child’s writing. Pictures, symbols, adult-scribed words and independent writing can all have a place.
Choose the border you need
Print a colour version for a ready-made frame, or choose black and white to keep it simple or invite children to colour the border. The download page offers PDF, Word and zipped JPEG versions.
Offer a choice of paper. These layouts are options, not ability levels or steps to complete. Children can choose the space that suits what they want to communicate.
Give the page a purpose
Start with a shared story, something the child has noticed or a message they want to give. Use photographs and conversation to help put the Diwali illustrations in context.
Draw and tell
Offer a blank sheet for a picture inspired by a Diwali story or shared experience. Invite the child to tell you about it; add their words only if they would like you to.
Make a message
Children can create a greeting, invitation or short message for someone they choose. Let them decide how pictures, marks or words will carry their meaning.
Write something to share
Use a lined page for a caption, a remembered story moment or a short explanation. Choose a layout together and leave room for the child’s own ideas.
Which ages might use the sheets?
The blank sheets can support drawing and mark making in Preschool and Reception. Reception and KS1 children may also choose a lined layout for writing. Choose by the child’s purpose and preferences, rather than expecting every child of an age to use the same sheet.
Do children need to write on the lines?
No. The blank sheet is equally useful for drawing, marks, symbols or writing. On any version, listen to what the child wants to communicate. They do not need to fill the page.
How should I print the sheets?
Print the pages you need on A4 in landscape orientation. Check print preview and choose a setting that keeps the whole border inside the printable area. Use the PDF for a ready-to-print copy.
Can I adapt the Word version?
You can add your own text or adjust the writing lines in Word. Check the layout before printing. The border illustrations are pictures, so their individual decorative details are not separately editable.
