What this document is

The Pets & Vets Mini Theme Micro Pack is a short, flexible planning resource designed to be used alongside your core Preschool curriculum themes, responding to children’s interest in animals while centring care, kindness and observation rather than ownership.

It supports children to explore how living creatures communicate their needs, how humans can respond with gentleness and responsibility, and how professionals help animals stay safe and healthy.

This mini theme is trauma-aware and inclusive, recognising that children’s experiences with animals may vary widely — from beloved pets to fear, loss or cultural differences.

It is intended to support professional judgement, not replace statutory guidance or core curriculum planning.
