What this document is
This document set provides Intent → Progression Grids for toddlers aged 18–36 months across the following key strands:
Communication & Language
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Physical Development (gross and fine motor)
Early Literacy seeds
Early Maths seeds
Each grid clearly sets out what children should experience, how learning typically progresses across three 6-month bands (18–24, 24–30 and 30–36 months), and how adults can support this through interaction, provision and short focused inputs.
The grids are designed as a professional reference tool, helping adults connect curriculum intent with day-to-day practice, observation and next steps — without turning development into targets for children.
This document is not an assessment framework, checklist or expectation of what individual children must achieve by a certain age. It supports adult understanding, reflection and professional judgement and does not replace statutory EYFS guidance or Development Matters.
