'My Autumn Senses' Booklet | EYFS & KS1 Printable Mark Making, Drawing & Writing Activity Pack
🍂 Engage your children's senses with our wonderful 'My Autumn Senses' Booklet! This charming printable pack is perfect for EYFS and KS1 children, providing a fantastic way to support creative expression, writing skills, and an understanding of the natural world through a fun and reflective activity.
Ideal for Preschool, Nursery, School, or for Parents and Childminders at home, this resource is a brilliant tool for a seasonal topic on autumn, encouraging children to think about what they experience with their five senses.
This delightful pack features:
A set of 6 printable sheets that can be used separately or joined together to form a booklet.
A front cover with space to personalise the booklet with a name.
Five prompt pages, one for each of the senses: smell, feel, hear, see, and taste.
Visual reminders: Each page includes a simple image in the top right corner to depict the sense, such as a nose or an ear.
Open-ended prompts for mark making, drawing, and writing, allowing children to express their thoughts and feelings about autumn.
(Note: Please use your own discretion and knowledge of your children to ensure appropriateness of each activity suggested on this page and safety concerning any materials given and activity undertaken.)

Our 'My Autumn Senses' Booklet is incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Go on an Autumn Walk:
Before using the sheets, take children on an autumn walk. Encourage them to actively use their senses. Ask them, "What can you hear?", "What does the air feel like?" or "What can you smell?"
Creative Expression:
After the walk, provide the prompt sheets.
Encourage children to draw pictures of the things they experienced. For example, on the 'hear' page, they might draw the sound of crunching leaves or a rustling squirrel.
Differentiated Learning:
The sheets are perfect for differentiation. Younger children can simply use mark making or drawing to express their ideas. Older children can write short phrases or sentences to describe what they saw, heard, and felt.
Communication and Language:
Use the sheets as a stimulus for a discussion. Have children share what they have drawn or written, and talk about their different sensory experiences.
Create a Display:
The completed booklets or individual sheets make a wonderful addition to an autumn display board, showcasing the children's observations and creative work.
-
EYFS Framework:
Expressive Arts and Design: Children explore and use a range of media to express their creativity and ideas.
Physical Development (Fine Motor Control): The acts of drawing and writing help to strengthen hand muscles, improve pencil grip, and enhance hand-eye coordination.
Communication and Language: Children can talk about their experiences and share their ideas with others.
Understanding the World (The Natural World): Children learn to make observations of the natural world using their senses.
-
KS1 Curriculum:
English (Writing): Children use the sheets to practise writing sentences and recording their thoughts.
English (Spoken Language): Children can use the booklet as a stimulus for discussion and to share their ideas with peers and adults.
Science: The activity provides a great opportunity to talk about the five senses and how we use them to explore our world.
