Our FREE Goldilocks & Three Bears: Role-Play Masks are incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Creative Activity:
Use the masks as a creative project. Provide a variety of colouring tools, such as pencils, crayons, and felt-tips, and encourage children to decorate the masks. This is a great way to develop fine motor skills and artistic flair.
Role-Play & Storytelling:
Once the masks are complete, children can use them as props to act out the story. This is a fantastic way to encourage storytelling and imaginative play.
They can use the key phrases from the story, or make up their own dialogue for the characters.
Communication and Language:
The masks can be a great stimulus for a discussion about the story and its characters. Ask questions like, "What does Goldilocks look like?", "How do you think Daddy Bear felt?" or "Why do you think Baby Bear cried?"
Sequencing the Story:
The masks can be used as a visual aid to help children retell the story in the correct sequence. You can ask them to hold up the mask of the character who is speaking at a particular point in the story.
Adding to a Continuous Provision Area:
The masks can be laminated and placed in a role-play area with different-sized chairs and bowls. Children can use them as props in their own imaginative play, revisiting the story whenever they want.
-
EYFS Framework:
Expressive Arts and Design: Children explore and use a range of media and materials, and use their imagination to create and act out roles.
Physical Development (Fine Motor Skills): The acts of colouring and cutting out the masks strengthen hand muscles and improve dexterity.
Communication and Language: Children listen to and retell the story, and use the masks to communicate their own ideas and dialogue.
Literacy (Reading - indirectly): Exposure to the characters and their actions in the story helps with comprehension and an understanding of narrative.
