š Bring a sense of autumn fun to your maths lessons with our wonderful Autumn: Size Ordering Activity & Display Cards! This engaging printable resource is perfect for EYFS children, providing a fantastic way to support mathematical concepts of size and comparison, as well as fine motor skills, through a hands-on and seasonal activity.
Ideal for Preschool, Nursery, School, or for Parents and Childminders at home, these cards are a brilliant tool for making learning about measurement interactive and memorable.
This fantastic pack features:
A set of 8 A4 sheets, each with five different sizes of the same autumn-themed image.
Charming illustrations: The images include a squirrel, acorn, leaf, bat, pumpkin, cloud, wellie boots, and a fox.
Designed for versatile use: The cards can be cut out for a variety of activities, from a repeatable size ordering task to a fun cut-and-stick activity.
Encourages key vocabulary: The activity prompts discussion using comparative words like āsmall, smaller, smallestā and ābig, bigger, biggestā.
(Note: Please use your own discretion and knowledge of your children to ensure appropriateness of each activity suggested on this page and safety concerning any materials given and activity undertaken.)

Our Autumn: Size Ordering Activity & Display Cards are incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years environments:
Hands-on Ordering Activity:
Cut out and laminate the images. Place a set of the same image (e.g., all five pumpkins) in a tray and challenge children to place them in order from smallest to biggest, or vice versa.
For an extra tactile experience, you can add Velcro tabs to the back of the cards and use them on a fuzzy felt board.
Creative Cut-and-Stick:
Use the sheets for a creative cut-and-stick activity. Children can cut out the different-sized images and glue them onto paper, arranging them in order. This is a great way to develop their scissor skills and fine motor control.
Vocabulary Development:
As children are using the cards, encourage them to use comparative and superlative language. Ask questions like, "Which one is the biggest squirrel?", or "Can you find the smallest leaf?".
Display Aid:
Once laminated, the cards can also be used as a display aid to visually represent the concepts of size and order.
Discussion Prompt:
Use the cards to start a discussion about the different autumn items and their characteristics.

This engaging resource supports key developmental areas within the EYFS framework:
Mathematics (Shape, Space and Measure): Children learn to use everyday language to talk about size and to order objects by size.
Physical Development (Fine Motor Control): The acts of cutting and manipulating the cards strengthen hand muscles and improve dexterity.
Communication and Language: Children can talk about the different sizes of the objects and use comparative language.
Understanding the World (The Natural World): The resource provides a context for learning about different autumn items.
