Living, Dead or Never Alive - Year 2
Sort, Explain and Investigate
Help children compare things that are living, dead or have never been alive. Begin with real examples and clear information, then ask children to explain their choices, gather evidence and reconsider uncertain cases. A picture alone cannot always settle a question.
A useful starting sequence
1. Look at a cared-for growing plant, a known dead fallen leaf and a clean rock. Name each thing and discuss its history.
2. Sort a few examples using the three group mats. Read the picture-card information together.
3. Place uncertain examples on “Not sure yet” and decide what would help.
4. Observe over time or find information, then explain whether the evidence supports or changes the choice.
