Role-Play Resources
First Small Worlds | Toddlers
Toddlers 18–36 Months
Twelve illustrated cards for adults supporting early small world play. Start with familiar experiences such as moving a car, greeting a visitor, resting an animal or carrying toys. Keep real, movable resources available; the pictures are suggestions for adults, not arrangements children must copy.
Start with what the child is doing
Offer a small, manageable selection and watch. A toddler may carry, line up, put in, take out or repeat a movement. These actions can be the whole play. Join gently when welcomed; there is no requirement to invent characters, follow a plot, answer questions or tell a developed story.
