Shared messages for outdoor play

Use these editable picture boards to support asking, refusing, commenting, suggesting and inviting during play. Select them across ages according to individual communication needs. The 16-message layout is one option, not an age level or a complete communication system.

Keep the child’s communication available

Use the boards alongside the child’s usual speech, sounds, gestures, signs, objects, communication book or device. Keep established augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) available outdoors. A child does not need to speak or pass a readiness test to be offered AAC. These particular pictures and this layout still need to suit them.
