Maps, Plans & Routes
Children can use drawings, marks, symbols, words and objects to show places, explore ideas and share ways to go. Maps can show where things are; plans can help children think about something they want to make or arrange; routes can show a journey. Their representations may combine all three.
Begin with the play
Offer paper when children have something they want to communicate or remember. The six invitation cards suggest possibilities. Children can use an open sheet, choose a template or work directly with objects. A plan can begin before, during or after making something.
