Thirty practical invitations for exploring number composition, comparison, pattern, shape, spatial reasoning and measure. Offer real objects alongside a card and follow the child’s ideas. Five cards focus on number and composition; the other twenty-five broaden the maths available in autumn provision.

Using the cards

Choose one or two cards to place with suitable materials. Read the prompt aloud when helpful. “Wonder” offers an optional question; model the vocabulary naturally through talk, gestures or signs. Children can show their thinking by moving objects, pointing, describing, drawing or directing an adult. They do not need to read, record an answer or complete every card.
