Twelve invitations for exploring soft clay and other suitable malleable materials through autumn play. Children can press, roll, pinch, join, enclose and reshape. Offer time to discover what the material does and develop personal ideas; a recognisable model is optional.

Offer an invitation

Place one card beside a workable piece of clay, a clear board or tray and a small choice of tools. Read the main prompt if helpful. The picture suggests a starting possibility; children can make something quite different. The smaller “You could…” line is optional support. Model the words through talk, gestures or signs as the play unfolds.
