Our FREE Christmas: Santa's Workshop Role-Play Pack is incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Setting up the Role-Play Area:
Use the banner, windows, and signs to create a dedicated space for the workshop.
Print and cut out the character masks for children to wear, helping them get into character as Santa, elves, or reindeer.
Use the present props to spark imaginative play.
Literacy & Mark-Making Focus:
The name list scroll is a fantastic tool for encouraging writing at varying levels. Perhaps you could display the list in the role-play area and every child who enters writes their own name, either by copying, tracing, or writing it independently.
Encourage children to fill out present request forms or write on the gift tags, giving a purpose to their mark-making and writing.
Social and Emotional Development:
Role-play is a powerful tool for developing social skills like negotiation, cooperation, and turn-taking. Children can work together to build toys, wrap presents, and deliver them.
It also allows children to explore different feelings and roles, fostering their empathy and understanding of others.
Fine Motor Skills:
The acts of cutting out the props, using a pen to write on the forms, or tying strings on the gift tags all strengthen hand muscles and improve dexterity.
-
EYFS Framework:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Children learn to play cooperatively, take turns, and develop a sense of identity through role-play.
Communication and Language: Children use imaginative and descriptive language, take on different roles in conversations, and listen to and follow instructions.
Literacy (Writing): Children use mark-making for a purpose and learn to form letters and write their own names.
Expressive Arts and Design (Role Play): Children use props and their imagination to role-play a festive theme.
-
KS1 Curriculum:
English (Spoken Language; Writing): Children can use drama and role-play to explore characters and settings, and write for a specific purpose (e.g., writing a name on a list, writing a gift tag).
Art and Design: Children can help to decorate and set up the role-play area.
PSHE: Supports discussions around sharing, giving, and teamwork.
