Our FREE 'Signs of Spring' Display Poster Cards are incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Create a Seasonal Display: Print and display the cards as part of a Spring display. This will visually highlight the changes that happen following winter and serve as a constant point of reference for children.
Child-Led Learning: Offer the cards as part of a continuous provision or an invitation to play. Children may initiate communication with you or their peers about the cards in a child-led fashion, fostering natural conversations and shared learning.
Adult-Led Interaction: Use the cards for both closed and open-ended questioning.
Younger Children: You might ask questions like, “Where’s the tree?” to encourage them to point to familiar objects, or you can describe what is in the picture to help them learn new words.
Older Children: You can cover more ground with questions like, “What colours can you see?”, “How many tadpoles are there in this picture?”, “Which is your favourite card?”, and “Why do you like this picture the best?”. You can also use the cards as a prompt for more complex thinking, such as, “What do you think this tree would look like in the Winter?”.
Inspire Outdoor Exploration: The cards can be used to motivate an outdoor exploration. Ask questions like, “Have you seen any of these signs of Spring?”, “Where?”, “When?”, “Who were you with?”, or “Shall we go outside and see which of them we can find?” This makes the learning more hands-on and real-world.
