Our 'Feelings Station' Interactive Display is incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Daily Self-Registration: At the start of the day, encourage children to find and add their name to the emoji that best represents how they are feeling. This provides a quick and visual check-in for adults.
Mindfulness Check-In: Throughout the day, encourage children to revisit the display and move their name if their feelings change. This aids in the mindfulness practice of recognising that emotions are not permanent and can shift.
Emotional Literacy: Use the display as a prompt for discussion. You can ask open-ended questions like, "What makes you feel happy?" or "How can we help someone who is feeling sad?"
Well-being Tool: Adults can quickly scan the display to see how the group is feeling and can follow up with individual children who may have indicated they are feeling sad, angry, or worried.
-
EYFS Framework:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Children learn to identify and name their own feelings and can be encouraged to manage their emotions effectively. The display also aids in helping children understand that their feelings matter and that it's okay to feel a certain way.
Communication and Language: Children can use the display to communicate their feelings non-verbally and to talk about their emotions with adults and peers.
Literacy: By interacting with their own name tags, children are encouraged to recognise their name in written form.
-
KS1 Curriculum:
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education): The activity supports children in learning about emotions and feelings, how to express them in a healthy way, and how to understand the feelings of others.
English (Spoken Language): Children can use the display as a stimulus for discussion and to talk about their emotions with peers and adults.
