Our FREE Halloween: 'My Magic Spell' Writing Activity is incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years and KS1 environments:
Role-Play as a Starting Point:
Use the sheet as inspiration for a role-play activity. Encourage your child(ren) to place various items (e.g., leaves, sticks, dried pasta, buttons) into a pot or cauldron.
Ask them questions like, "What items are they placing in?" and "How much of each?".
Purposeful Mark-Making & Writing:
Encourage children to use the spell sheet as a way to record their ideas. For younger children, you might write down their ideas for them while they draw. For older children, you can encourage them to sound out and write the words themselves.
Developing Descriptive Language:
Challenge children to use more exciting and descriptive words. Instead of 'worms,' encourage them to write 'wiggly worms.' This helps to build their vocabulary and make their writing more vivid.
Sequencing and Ordering:
Introduce ordering words such as 'first,' 'next,' and 'finally' to help children structure their spells. This is great for early narrative and instructional writing skills.
Differentiated Learning:
The activity can be easily differentiated to meet the needs of all learners. You can write down ideas for younger children, encourage phonetic spelling for those in the middle, and challenge more confident writers to create full sentences.
