Our FREE UK Birds: Number Slice Puzzle Activity is incredibly versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways across various early years environments:
Focused Cutting & Fine Motor Activity:
Use the puzzles for a specific fine motor session. Have children cut along the vertical lines, which is an excellent activity for practicing scissor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Number Ordering & Recognition:
After the pieces are cut, mix them up.
Challenge children to put the numbered slices back in the correct order, from 1-5 or 1-10, to complete the picture. This is a hands-on way to reinforce number recognition and ordering skills.
Problem-Solving Practice: The activity of reassembling the puzzle encourages logical thinking and spatial reasoning. Children must use their observational skills to work out how the pieces fit together.
Differentiated Learning: Use the 1-5 puzzles for younger or less confident children, and the 1-10 puzzles for those who are ready for a bigger challenge.
Repeatable or One-Time Use: You can use them as a cut and stick activity for a one-time craft that children can take home. Alternatively, laminate them after cutting to use time and time again as a continuous provision activity.
